Digital Switchover and Assistive Technology Systems
21st May 2026
Changes are being made to landline phone services as part of the ‘digital switchover’. This is the process of phone lines being modernised by changing from the old analogue to modern digital lines.
If you rely on being able to use your landline phone as part of your environmental control system we want to ensure that this continues to work for you after the digital switchover, even in the event of a power cut.
If you have switched to a digital landline already or are about to, you are advised to contact your phone provider.
Your phone service provider must offer you a solution to make sure you can contact the emergency services when a power cut occurs, for example with a battery back-up unit for your landline. This should be provided free of charge to people who depend on their landline phone.
For users of telecare alarm systems, you will potentially be upgraded to a newer digital system such as Tunstal365. If EATS has provided a means of activating your telecare system, please contact the service as EATS provided equipment will need to be paired with the new system.
For more information see the Ofcom website on Digital Switchover.
